Response to 'Weapons Training'

Diary,

I have to be cruel to be kind. Sure they’re men, but are they real men? I might ask them that tomorrow as they in my knowledge will not be men until they’ve faced what I’ve faced. Until they’ve seen the blood the gore and the guilt, as good men slip away like ants. My men so young, yet so tough they took the punishments today but what will it be like out there, when its life or death. Will they stand tall and do me proud? Today, when I spoke they listened but they always do. Did they understand what I meant when I said “one false move will kill, one late reaction will put you in the grave”? They’re young oh so young, but there here, they want this; to stand for the country to make things right. They were under my wing once, but now they’re free, ready to fly, like little birds they are now ready for flight. The structure of today’s drill was as follows:
-Torture, the same torture they will face in the war. The anguish of losing men or life.
- Struggle, the same struggle they will face to stay alive.
- Brotherhood, I said to my men; “You’ll leave with this knowledge, it will help so listen up. From this moment, this very significant moment onwards you are no longer men about to depart for war, no you are brothers. Do for each other what you would do for a brother, as he is now your brother and you are now his brother. You are now brothers at war”. Last two hours of the drill was unexplainable, true men together, true brothers in each other’s arm. As they come together it was as if they could concur the world together no matter what circumstance, they stood proud together and said “war here we come”.

Belittled.

You taught me many things, to laugh an to learn,
Yet you never taught me how to banish.
As your fist hits my face all I do is yearn,
For the moment in which you'll realise I can punish.

For the things, all things you have done,
As your soul turns to charcoal;
My bare feet give way, I can no longer run,
Your crude, corruptive and out of control.

As I think the pains almost over,
You'll come back for more.
As I close my eyes like playing hide and go seek.
Nothing happens, nothing remains, nothing is for sure.

*This poem is also written from the persona of a young child, as the poet uses techniques such as rhyming to show the hurt and pain this child is feeling. In the sixth line the poet uses personification to indicate the change over of the soul to darkness as the soul 'sneaks to dark charcoal'. Other techniques are also used such as a simile to indicate to the audience that the child trys to hid from the bashing in which she is about to receive as she 'closes her eyes like playing hide and go seek.

Life's circle now ends !

As she reaches the river bend,
Contemplating for it to end.
She dives beneath the water's icy skin,
Hoping the depth would wash away her only sin.
The memories flood back to her mind,
She ponders how on earth she was so blind.
Darkness comes to pull her away,
This is where her troubles will stay.

*This poem is written from the persona of a young child, a girl in particular who as made some wrong decisions in her life. The title of the poem 'Lifes Circle Now Ends' is visually represented in the picture as the reflection of the branches on the peaceful water creates the image of a circle and shows the circle of life. The water is personified in the third line as she 'dives beneath the waters icy skin' this show her feelings and moods as a scared young girl who trys to hide behind the waters icy skin.

mewithoutyou interview !

I had the oppourtunity of meeting one on one with Aaron, the writer/composer of mewithoutyou's song 'The Ghost'. Aaron gives us some insite into what the lycris in this song mean to him. The lycris are located on the right hand side of the page and the interview is below; Enjoy.

-The quote "in his silent sound was the peace I found” means and represents what to yourself?
This quote is meant to symbolise god, to show that I gain peace as I speak to him. ‘His silent sound’ represents the fact that when I pray and talk to god even though I do not hear him I know he is silently listening to me. This quote touches me quite deeply as I come from a religious background and there was a moment once when my mother passed away where I felt god was truly there, and to this day he is the reason I can live my life after losing her.

-You say “From my left eye flow tears of joy, of sorrow from my right” what is this meant to show the audience?
The tears from my left eye are meant to represent my feelings about and for god as in the nincent creed I am supposedly seated at the right hand of the father. Therefore looking up from my left eye I see god as he is to my left. So from the left eye my eye flows with tears of joy as although I have lost a relationship I can never lose god as he will stick with me. I cry sorrow from my right as I am so sad to lose someone who I loved dearly but I couldn’t possibly stay with her as she didn’t believe in my one love and passion.

-When saying “You might seem too strong to surrender, but you’re far too frail to fight” you use alliteration to convey what to the audience?
I try to not only share to my fans but also to the girl whom i was in love with that even though she thinks she was strong enough without god only time will tell as god’s love builds me up she will have none therefore she will remain frail in the body and frail in the heart.

-Your lyrics all seem to represent one way or another about god and religion, are there any quotes that I have missed that depict to the audience your views on religion?
Another line i used was “But a tree once cut down, came up new from the ground”. This line is used to show the audience another side of god, the miracle side. No matter what theory we deem true, we know that the world around us was somehow created. I have faith in god and I believe god created the nature around us, the amazing beauty that sprouts up from the ground every day to grace us with its presence and smells. This line is simply to justify again to the audience about my beliefs.

-Wow, so your whole song is about your beliefs on god and religion. How do your band members feel about that, was there any tension over your beliefs?
The song actually reflects my feelings and what was happing in my life at the present time. I did lose someone very special to me because she didn’t share my views on god and religion. It’s really hard to have someone that you love not believe in your way of life. As a song writer and a musician we write songs to do with what problems we are having in life or what in general is happening in our life. It’s our way to break out, to get things off our chest and too speak up, for me to sing about this helps to heal the pain. It’s harder in a band as of course we all have different opinions yet we all make sacrifices and if the band did have any problems about this song there was never any tension reflected due to the song.
