mewithoutyou interview !

I had the oppourtunity of meeting one on one with Aaron, the writer/composer of mewithoutyou's song 'The Ghost'. Aaron gives us some insite into what the lycris in this song mean to him. The lycris are located on the right hand side of the page and the interview is below; Enjoy.

-The quote "in his silent sound was the peace I found” means and represents what to yourself?
This quote is meant to symbolise god, to show that I gain peace as I speak to him. ‘His silent sound’ represents the fact that when I pray and talk to god even though I do not hear him I know he is silently listening to me. This quote touches me quite deeply as I come from a religious background and there was a moment once when my mother passed away where I felt god was truly there, and to this day he is the reason I can live my life after losing her.

-You say “From my left eye flow tears of joy, of sorrow from my right” what is this meant to show the audience?
The tears from my left eye are meant to represent my feelings about and for god as in the nincent creed I am supposedly seated at the right hand of the father. Therefore looking up from my left eye I see god as he is to my left. So from the left eye my eye flows with tears of joy as although I have lost a relationship I can never lose god as he will stick with me. I cry sorrow from my right as I am so sad to lose someone who I loved dearly but I couldn’t possibly stay with her as she didn’t believe in my one love and passion.

-When saying “You might seem too strong to surrender, but you’re far too frail to fight” you use alliteration to convey what to the audience?
I try to not only share to my fans but also to the girl whom i was in love with that even though she thinks she was strong enough without god only time will tell as god’s love builds me up she will have none therefore she will remain frail in the body and frail in the heart.

-Your lyrics all seem to represent one way or another about god and religion, are there any quotes that I have missed that depict to the audience your views on religion?
Another line i used was “But a tree once cut down, came up new from the ground”. This line is used to show the audience another side of god, the miracle side. No matter what theory we deem true, we know that the world around us was somehow created. I have faith in god and I believe god created the nature around us, the amazing beauty that sprouts up from the ground every day to grace us with its presence and smells. This line is simply to justify again to the audience about my beliefs.

-Wow, so your whole song is about your beliefs on god and religion. How do your band members feel about that, was there any tension over your beliefs?
The song actually reflects my feelings and what was happing in my life at the present time. I did lose someone very special to me because she didn’t share my views on god and religion. It’s really hard to have someone that you love not believe in your way of life. As a song writer and a musician we write songs to do with what problems we are having in life or what in general is happening in our life. It’s our way to break out, to get things off our chest and too speak up, for me to sing about this helps to heal the pain. It’s harder in a band as of course we all have different opinions yet we all make sacrifices and if the band did have any problems about this song there was never any tension reflected due to the song.
